We took to our Sidmouth Nub News Facebook page - which we're proud to say recently reached 1,000 likes - to ask readers their thoughts on Sidmouth's greenest businesses.

Below is a list of some of the eco-friendly businesses that were brought to our attention. We should mention, that this list is based purely on reader's comments, and not through our own research.

GANESHA WHOLEFOODS

With 40 years' history as an ethical, sustainable, environmentally friendly outlet, Ganesha is a veteran of the East Devon eco scene.

All three of Ganesha's shops (Sidmouth, Axminster and Honiton) are certified by Organic Farmers and Growers for packing and retailing of organic foods.

They stock a complete range of eco-friendly household supplies, as well as cruelty-free toiletries and skincare.

You will also find an extensive range of vitamin and mineral supplements, as well as herbal and homeopathic remedies.

VIDA BEAUTY

A popular choice with our readers, receiving numerous comments; Vida Beauty was set up this time last year by a woman who is as passionate about beauty as she is the environment.

As stated on the Facebook page: "Vida Beauty is an eco sustainable salon, offering a wide range of beauty and holistic treatments. Plastic free and organic."

TASTE OF SIDMOUTH

An award-winning, luxury ice-cream parlour that not only lovingly creates its own produce, but also has a longstanding dedication to the environment.

We spoke to the shop owner, who told us: "We've always been conscious of adopting environmentally friendly ways to run a business.

"All of our takeaway ice-creams and coffees are served in compostable 'ecoware' and everything disposed of in the shop gets recycled accordingly.

"We pay extra for the service as it's really important to me and my staff that we are doing our bit for the environment."

POBBY AND BLUE

This fashion outlet is one hundred per cent dedicated to being as ethical and sustainable as possible.

A member of staff there told us: "We are all vegan here and the shop uses no animal products whatsoever.

"We use paper bags and string instead of any plastic packaging.

"We also collect blankets and clothes for RAFT - a refugee charity in Taunton."

SOMETHING LOVELY

Not long opened in Sidmouth's Libra Court, Something Lovely has already had a big and positive impact on the community.

Em Swallow explained: "Right from the start of setting up this business I've been mindful of waste and try to re-use as much as possible.

"People who come to the studio use the paper that covers the work surface to wrap-up their pottery pieces.

"All additional packaging I use is made of eco-friendly, corn-based material, as opposed to polystyrene."

"Our kilns also sometimes run off of solar panels I have at home."

FILLFULL

Fillfull offers shoppers a plastic free alternative to supermarkets when buying food, cleaning products and ethically sourced goods.

The man behind the shop is Daniel Prince, 42, who previously opened a similar outlet in Ottery St Mary.

He told Nub News: "We really hope we can raise awareness around reducing pollution and food waste.

"It's more about people being better in themselves and doing what they can to help the planet."
