Sidmouth's MP Simon Jupp has written to Boots UK asking it to reconsider closing its pharmacy on Woolbrook Road.

It will reportedly shut its doors in February next year. The town will still have a Boots Pharmacy on Fore Street.

Mr Jupp, who is the Conservative MP for East Devon, also urged the company to explain its reasons for closing the store in spite of apparent high demand.

He said: "I am writing to express my concerns about the planned closure in February 2024 of Sidmouth's Woolbrook Boots Pharmacy in my constituency of East Devon.

"I would be grateful if you can provide more information as to why Boots have decided to close this store.

"As a resident of Sidmouth, I regularly see queues outside the store. I have received correspondence from customers since the closure was announced who are surprised at the decision, given the store's popularity.

"You will be aware of Sidmouth's older demographics who are more likely to need to use a pharmacy, not least those collecting regular prescription medicines.

"Although I appreciate this is a commercial decision for Boots to make, I wanted to express my disappointment and ask for more information as to why Boots have decided to close this store and whether the decision could be reversed?"

Boots UK has been approached for comment.
