The Rotary Club of Sidmouth is the local branch of a worldwide organisation of enthusiastic men and women of all ages, dedicated to having fun whilst serving communities both locally and internationally.
Rotary was launched in Chicago in 1905, and 32 years later in 1937 it arrived in Sidmouth. Today our club has 50 members who enjoy an active social schedule whilst endeavouring to make our town and our world a better place to live.
In normal times the club meets each Wednesday for lunch, alternately at the Victoria Hotel and the Anchor Pub, for networking, conducting the club's business or to listen to an outside speaker.
In addition, we have several social events throughout the year, many with partners, including a summer BBQ, quiz evenings, skittles matches, and theatre trips.
Over the past decade our activities have raised over £100,000 for local charities and organisations, including Sidmouth Hospiscare, the Sid Valley Memory Café, Sidmouth Scouts, the Gigg Club, the Sidmouth Town Band, the Sidholm Music Room, the Admiral Nurse Campaign, Gateway Homeless Action Group, and the local Food Bank.
During this time, we have also raised funds to provide relief during international disasters, including over £7,000 for Shelterbox.
We also contribute over each year to Rotary's 'End Polio Now' campaign, which after three decades is now on the brink of ending Polio worldwide forever.
In addition to our fundraising activities we are active in the local community.
In 2010 we helped to launch the Sid Valley Memory Café, and more recently a befriending club.
Each year we also organise several theatre and social outings for our fellow citizens who have difficulty getting out.
Amongst our other activities are the local schools public speaking competition and a gardening competition for primary schools in the area; and to help take care of our local environment we have planted over 4,000 trees since 1991.
Should you be interested in expanding your social life and making new friends whilst at the same time serving our community we would love to hear from you.
