New data released by the Office for National Statistics (ONS) yesterday (June 12) show the number of deaths that have been recorded as a result of the coronavirus, by postcode area.

An interactive map of the UK allows users to search specific localities detailing how many people have died with the Covid-19 virus.

In Sidmouth five deaths were recorded, with one in Sidford bringing the current total in the local area to six.

In surrounding areas, one death was recorded in Ottery St Mary, two in Budleigh Salterton and 10 in Seaton.

The hyperlocal breakdown shows deaths where Covid-19 was the underlying cause or was mentioned on the death certificate as a contributory factor between March 1 and May 31, registered by June 6 2020.

These figures can be compared to the last set of ONS statistics for Sidmouth produced on May 1.
