A tree has been stolen from Sidmouth Arboretum, however, the independent association who runs the arboretum has told the culprits to 'look after it' and to perhaps make a donation to cover the cost.

The Norfolk Island Pine was taken from Sidmouth Arboretum earlier this week, prompting the organisation to take to social media to talk directly to the thieves.

An arboretum spokesperson said: "Whoever removed the young Norfolk Island Pine that we planted recently in the park at Knowle, we hope you look after it and it thrives in your garden.

"Perhaps you could send us a donation (via Sidmouth Town Council is one route) to cover the thirty pounds it cost from our limited tree planting fund.

"If anyone does want a small tree to plant in their Sid valley garden, we will probably have some free ones in January donated by the Conservation Volunteers and Ovo Energy."
