Devon and Cornwall Police are urging motorists not to panic buy fuel, as long queues are seen at petrol stations across the county.

Nub News captured this video of motorists queueing up to top up their tanks at an Esso filling station in Seaton, where there's a sign informing them that they must limit their purchase to £15.00 worth of any grade of fuel.

Esso, BP and Tesco petrol stations have had problems getting fuel deliveries because of the shortage of HGV drivers.

BP said a small number of its forecourts were closed and some sites have run out of at least one grade of fuel.

A small number of Tesco's petrol forecourts have run out of at least one grade of fuel, according to ExxonMobil which runs the sites.

Today (Saturday, September 25) Devon and Cornwall Police posted on Twitter: "Please don't #PanicBuy fuel. Communities in Devon and Cornwall are being reminded that there is no fuel shortage in either county - and there is no need to panic buy.

"Concerns about a shortage of fuel have led to an increase in the number of motorists visiting filling stations. This has caused queues and congestion on some roads, which can cause delays to other motorists and have an impact on critical and emergency services.

"The current situation will not impact on the service Devon and Cornwall Police provides to our communities. We are calling for the public to behave sensibly and not panic buy."

Meanwhile the Government is due to announce tomorrow how it plans to tackle the shortage of HGV drivers.

Ministers are expected to announce details of a temporary visa scheme to allow foreign HGV drivers to work in the UK..
