It is not yet clear if the Brexit Party will be fielding a candidate in East Devon, amid claims and counter-claims from councillors, East Devon's current MP and the Brexit Party itself.
Retiring East Devon MP Sir Hugo Swire and an East Devon county councillor have both claimed the Brexit Party will not be fielding a candidate in East Devon at December's General Election.
However, the Brexit Party told Nub News yesterday it will be fielding candidates in all of the UK's parliamentary seats.
This morning the outgoing Conservative MP for East Devon, Sir Hugo Swire, seemed to rule out the party taking part in the East Devon election race, he said: "With The Brexit Party not standing in East Devon in the upcoming general election, the Conservatives are the only party to stand by democracy, deliver on the referendum result, and focus on our schools, hospitals and police."
Yesterday Seaton and Colyton county councillor Martin Shaw tweeted: "Brexit Party pulls out of East Devon race, so that Tories will corner Brexiter vote. Boris Johnson will walk all over us without @unitetoremain and tactical voting for @ClaireWrightInd."
After seeing Mr Shaw's comments yesterday Nub News contacted Brexit Party HQ in London to find out the latest. A spokesperson told Nub News that the party will be contesting all 650 UK constituencies, and that the comments were 'fake news'.
Nub News went back to the Brexit Party today after Sir Hugo Swire made his comments. A Brexit Party spokesperson told Nub News: "Sir Hugo is not privy to our internal discussions so he does not have a clue, he may be in for a surprise.
"I think the term is wishful thinking. We'll be making an announcement very soon."
East Devon's General Election race will be watched closely by the all the major parties.
Incumbent Conservative MP Sir Hugo Swire will step aside, for an as yet unannounced Conservative candidate, and his nearest competitor from the last General Election, Independent Claire Wright, will face her vote being split by the Liberal Democrat Party candidate Eleanor Rylance.
