"Don't get caught out by taking a chance on driving home or getting in a car with someone who has been drinking."

A safety awareness campaign has been launched in Sidmouth and across East Devon to encourage Christmas party-goers to think before they drink to prevent the risk of accidentally drink-driving the morning after.

According to Devon and Cornwall Police, there were 1,472 breath tests administered between December 1, 2018, and January 1, 2019. Thirteen percent (189) of these were positive, refused or failed, and of those 18% (34) were caught in the morning (between 5am and noon).

Claire Wright secured 28,869 votes in yesterday's General Election.

The runner up in the East Devon General Election race, Independent Claire Wright, has thanked her voters, supporters and team for their work campaigning.

Claire Wright secured 28,869 votes in yesterday's General Election but despite a celebrity endorsement from actor Hugh Grant Conservative candidate Simon Jupp won the contest with 32,577 votes, a majority of more than 6,700.

Conservative Simon Jupp will now represent Sidmouth in the House of Commons after winning the East Devon seat in yesterday's General Election with a majority of more than 6,700.

Simon Jupp fought off stiff competition from Independent Claire Wright, Liberal Democrat Eleanor Rylance, Labour's Dan Wilson, Green Henry Gent and Independent Peter Faithfull.
