CLUB REPORT: Sidmouth Running Club Round Up
By Guest
17th Nov 2020 | Local Sport
Members of Sidmouth Running Club have been keeping active over the last few weeks including the juniors who after completing their first course at St John's sports hall.
It was good to see the 8 to 11-year-olds receive their certificates for all the hard work they had put in.
Chairman Terry Bewes said: "What was even more pleasing was when told there would be no class next week at half term there was silence and then told the class would start again the following week a big cheer went up." (Since put on hold in line with current guidelines).
A big thank you to their teachers Charlotte Forrer, Catherine Hilton and Sharon Hall and all the others who assisted.
November 5th may have been the last club night for a while but it was not all bad news.
A few weeks ago Terry Bewes ran the Clinic 10km as a virtual race and invited any member who wanted to try a 10km at a steady pace to join him.
Mighty Green's Ashley Broughton, Julia Gardiner, Jane Stein, Kerry Salter, Leeann Thomson and Shaun Tipton took up the challenge.
In view of the support that the club gives to Lizzie Mayne of LMEvents, the race organizer, she very kindly gave them all a medal and snood. (Leeann and Shaun could not make the photo shoot.)
This was a great result for Julia as the furthest she had run before was 4.7 miles.
Mighty Green Derek Blackburn ran the actual course on the day completing it in under an hour which was an excellent result as there is quite a bit of climb in it.
Congratulations also go to Mighty Greens, Simon Hollyer and David Wright who recently completed a 35-mile ultra.
SRC member, Hamish Spence, has so far run the distance between Lands End and John O Groats in under 10 months raising money for Asthma UK.
He set himself the challenge to run between 500 and 750 miles before 23.59 hours on 31/12/20 but is already heading towards 1,000 miles by the end of November.
As an asthmatic he has found running very beneficial to his health and is aiming to raise £200 for the charity.
