The preferred option that the beach management plan for Sidmouth has identified is to construct one or two new rock groynes along East Beach

There are no plans for any emergency action to be taken following three cliff falls in the space of 24 hours in Sidmouth.

Two cliff falls took place on Wednesday – one at East Beach and one at Jacobs Ladder – with a third having taken place at East Beach on Tuesday afternoon – and all saw the cliffs crumble into the water and huge clouds of dust created.

Visitors to Sidmouth beach may have witnessed the recent spate of cliff falls; with large segments of red rock cracking off in the dry heat causing big dust clouds.

These potentially deadly occurrences are alarming for those who use the beach, with some photos showing sunbathers close to where part of the cliff edge has broken off.

A gourmet seafood restaurant on Sidmouth seafront has established a new operation in accordance with Covid-19 guidelines - to keep the wolves at bay and pave the way for other hospitality businesses currently treading water in a sink or swim situation.

The Pea Green Boat has reopened a gourmet takeaway service and bar. People are able to order food and drinks, which they can enjoy on the beach whilst adhering to social distancing.
