Blackdown House - East Devon District Council HQ

The East Devon District Council employee whose return from Italy prompted a complete shut down of the council's headquarters last week has tested negative for COVID-19.

The council's head office in Honiton, Blackdown House, was closed down as a precautionary measure on Friday, March 6, after concerns arose regarding a staff member who had recently returned from Italy, a country which has been hit hard by the Coronavirus.

Glass panel being trialled by East Devon District Council as part of the Sidmouth and East Beach Management Scheme has been smashed by vandals

At some point last night (Tuesday, 10 March), the glass splash panel that East Devon District Council are trialling on Sidmouth esplanade, as part of the Sidmouth Beach Management Scheme, was smashed on the landward side.

The Chancellor must not ignore the Sidmouth and the wider East Devon area in this week's budget when he tries to 'level up' parts of the North and the Midlands, Devon County Council leader John Hart warned today.

"Devon and the greater South West are just as deserving of investment as the Blue Wall areas in the North and Midlands," he said.
