Have a scream this Halloween and discover a packed programme of ‘spooktacular’ fun at The Donkey Sanctuary in Sidmouth during the October half term.
Follow the trail of pumpkins around the sanctuary with the Donkey Trick or Treat Trail to discover ‘treats’ that keep the donkeys happy and healthy, as well as things that are not so good for them, the ‘tricks’.
Find all the tricks among the treats and receive a sweet surprise and certificate on completion.
The Donkey Trick or Treat trail runs daily from Saturday, October 19, until Sunday, November 3. Each trail costs £3 per person.
Create a spooky masterpiece by carving a pumpkin ready to take home to display at Halloween. The pumpkin carving runs between 11am and 3pm from October 23 - 31. The cost for each pumpkin is £3.
The Donkey Sanctuary is the perfect place to experience the great outdoors this autumn. Visitors can explore the scenic trails and meet some of the friendly resident donkeys cared for at the sanctuary, including the gentle giant Poitous, the adoption donkeys and cute miniature donkeys.
It is also a great time to enjoy an autumnal walk through the woods, try your luck in the maze and even venture down the Weston valley to the sea.
Visitors can learn more about the charity’s worldwide work and find out why donkeys are so special through fun, interactive displays in the Exhibition Barn and Understanding Donkeys Zone, or join one of the daily tours, talks or demonstrations.
The Taste of the West award-winning restaurant, The Kitchen, serves up fresh, local, seasonal produce with unparalleled coast and country views, while the new Sunday Brunch menu is the perfect weekend treat to enjoy with friends and family.
For unique donkey-design items and souvenirs, or the chance to do some Christmas shopping, the well-stocked Gift Shop provides a great choice.
The Donkey Sanctuary celebrates its 50th anniversary in 2019, after being founded in 1969 by Dr Elisabeth Svendsen MBE. It has many achievements to celebrate and a renewed vision for the future that will transform the welfare of donkeys and mules across the world.
Entry and parking at the sanctuary is free. Dogs on leads are welcome.
