Children help plant community orchard

Year one children from Sidmouth Primary School helped the volunteers from Sidmouth Arboretum plant a community orchard beside Stowford Community Centre on Friday.

The trees were paid for through generous sponsorship by local insurance company The Exeter, as were the trees planted on two other sites in the last few weeks.

The fruit trees include twenty different varieties of apple, some south west specialities.

The children also took part in story telling with local author Jo Earlam and a role playing game inside the community centre.

The trees should start bearing fruit in eighteen months and local residents can look forward to helping themselves to free fruit by autumn next year.

Details of the trees can be found if you zoom in on the Arboretum's online Tree Map.
