Ottery St Mary is in the process of becoming 'Dementia Friendly'. This means creating understanding of the illness within the community and how to support sufferers, along with their carers.

The scheme has seen significant success within Honiton, with many businesses embracing the 'Dementia Friends' status as part of their ethos.

To generate awareness and gain support in making Ottery St Mary a Dementia Friendly Community, an event will be held at The Institute on Yonder Street on Saturday, 7 March between 10.30am and 2.30pm.

An event organiser said: "It is a drop in event, so you can come at a time that's convenient.

"There will be speakers and exhibitors; topics will include the impact of dementia on families and what services can be accessed to support the individual, their carers and families.

"There will be light refreshments available too and everyone is welcome to attend."

A programme of the speakers will be available on the day.
