The tradition was started by the late West Hill resident, Betty Williams, who in 2014 attracted national attention with her idea to treat 40 strangers to lunch.

Donations were sent in from across the world, which kept the event running until 2017.

An anonymous donor then came forward in January 2017 offering to pay for the event in 2017, 2018 and in 2019.

More than 30 guests enjoyed a Christmas lunch at the London Inn on Wednesday 18 December.

There was musical entertainment and the diners also joined in by singing carols with Bruce on the organ.

Cllr Glyn Dobson, who organised the event with his wife Gay, said: "As usual, it is a very enjoyable occasion.

"It always gives me great pleasure to see everyone having a good time."

At the end of the dinner the residents were treated to a cyclamen provided by Otter Garden Centre.

Cllr Dobson would like to thank the owner and staff of the London Inn for their great service and for making the occasion one to remember.

Also, to Otter Garden Centre for providing the flowers and Bruce for playing the organ.
