Claire Wright thanks voters and supporters after election defeat

The runner up in the East Devon General Election race, Independent Claire Wright, has thanked her voters, supporters and team for their work campaigning.

Claire Wright secured 28,869 votes in yesterday's General Election but despite a celebrity endorsement from actor Hugh Grant Conservative candidate Simon Jupp won the contest with 32,577 votes, a majority of more than 6,700.

The county councillor and parliamentary candidate took to Twitter this morning to thank those who supported her election bid, she said: "Thank you from the bottom of my heart to everyone who put their faith in me and worked so hard.

"I'm really sad I'm not going to be your MP but I loved every single minute of my campaign. Thank you for all your love and support."
