Sidmouth Swimming Pool users are being reassured that hygiene measures have been stepped up in the light of the coronavirus outbreak.

Peter Gilpin, chief operating officer of LED Community Leisure which runs the Sidmouth Swimming Pool, has issued a statement detailing precautions being taken to protect the public 'in these uncertain times'.

Mr Gilpin states he wants to personally highlight what is being done to support users and their leisure activities.

He says: "As the coronavirus pandemic continues to evolve, we are doing everything we can to ensure your safety whilst providing maximum flexibility.

"Please rest assured that LED Community Leisure is taking every possible precaution within our control, including increasing regular cleaning rotas within our centres.

"Meanwhile, we encourage staff and customers to wash their hands and use hand hygiene gel where available.

"All activities remain unaffected at present, although we will of course keep you fully informed of any cancelled classes, activities or facility closures."

Mr Gilpin points out that Government and Public Health England's advice is currently that leisure activities can continue as normal provided suitable precautions are in place.

As such, memberships will continue with the standards terms and conditions applicable.

"Should we be advised by the Government or Public Health England to close for a long-term period we will, of course, update you on our plans and response.

"At LED Community Leisure, we believe it is in challenging times like these that a great local community facility is needed most of all.

"Whether you are visiting our facilities today or in the future, our team members are ready to welcome you with the highest standards of service and cleanliness possible," he adds.
