Esplanade traders warned not to trade due to extreme weather
Traders on Sidmouth Esplanade have been asked not to trade on Friday due extreme weather warnings.
This week the Esplanade has been packed with independent traders selling jewellery, clothing and other goods. The traders are using the Esplanade as a temporary market while Sidmouth Folk Festival is on.
A spokesman for East Devon District Council said: "We have carefully considered the extreme weather warnings for Friday and Saturday and decided that in order to ensure the safety of everyone attending it would be best if trading does not take place on Sidmouth Esplanade on Friday, August 9. We've contacted all the traders to make them aware."
Police are urging extra caution after the Met Office has issued a yellow weather warning for South West England.
Chief Superintendent Sam de Reya said: "We can expect some unsettled weather across Devon and Cornwall which starts on Thursday 8 August through to Saturday 10 August.
"With this in mind I would urge the public to think about their plans this weekend and adapt them accordingly.
"Many coastal areas may become hazardous due to rainfall and thunderstorms, therefore extra caution should be taken.
"Conditions will be very wet and we are expecting high winds so we are asking people, especially those who are visiting the area, to stay away from the coastline and stay out of the sea."
