Voters have a chance to request a further election in the South Ward of Sidmouth Town Council following the resignation this week of the Vice Chair of the council Paul Wright, who has moved out of the area.

Paul served on the Town Council for five years since 2015 and as Vice Chair since 2019.

He is the fourth councillor to resign since June, the others being: John Rayson, Louise Thomson and David Barratt.

Chair of Sidmouth Town Council, councillor Ian Barlow said: "Paul brought a calm and level head to the council with a very personable and measured approach in everything he worked on. His IT skills and knowledge have been particularly beneficial with various projects he has been involved in. He will be very much missed."

This is a the second vacancy to occur in the South Ward after the resignation and death of John Rayson in June.

Any ten electors for the electoral area may give notice requesting that an election should be held to fill such vacancy.

Such a request must be signed and sent to the Returning Officer at East Devon District Council or sent electronically which must include a scan of the electors signature to [email protected] by midnight on September 28.
