The future of Sidmouth Carnival is "in jeopardy", according to its organisers.

At least 10 new committee members are being sought to keep the annual tradition afloat, which this year saw 28 entries lining the streets of the town.

A Sidmouth Carnival spokesperson said: "Being part of this long-standing tradition brings a great sense of pride to those that organise the procession each year and it would be such a shame to lose this fantastic asset that Sidmouth has.

"The carnival committee work year-round fundraising for the next year's carnival and this year has held four bingos with another two in the diary to see the year out.

"We have various roles to fill including needing a judging coordinator and procession coordinator.

"These roles form a vital part of the carnival and without them the carnival simply could not go ahead.

"We also need general committee members who are willing to get stuck in on the day. In between the annual carnival we also need people to help with running fundraising events.

"Without at least 10 new members stepping forward the 2024 Sidmouth Carnival is a non-starter."

To find out more about becoming a committee member, you can attend the Sidmouth Carnival Committee's next meeting on Wednesday 4 October at The Blue Ball in Sidford at 7.30pm.

Alternatively, you can email [email protected] or message them on Facebook.
