It's the start of practice season and time to 'get your Morris on'

By Guest 19th Sep 2019

If you have ever stopped to watch Sidmouth Steppers and Otter Morris dancing out this Summer and thought I fancy trying that - now is the time to give it a go.

The start of practice season is the perfect time to try it out, and you are lucky as there are two local Morris sides.

Sidmouth Steppers dance in the North West style, the tradition comes from the Lancashire mills hence the clogs and aprons.

They practice on Tuesday evenings at the Guide Hut Sidmouth from 7.30-9.30pm.

Their taster sessions are Tuesday 1 and October 8.

They are looking for female dancers 18 years+ and male and female musicians 18 years+.

Otter Morris dance in the border tradition (using sticks) and are a mixed side.

They are known for their high energy dances and 'Give It Some' attitude.

They practice on Monday nights at Feniton Youth Centre 7.30-9.30pm then onto The Nog Inn for refreshments and a song or two.

Male and female dancers and musicians welcome on Monday 14 October. Trainers and comfy clothes are all you need.

Come along and give it a go - Morris is waiting for you!
