Josefina Gori provides Spanish classes 'with a twist' for the people of Ottery St Mary, and further afield - students come from as far as Exeter and Chard.

The classes, which have been running in the town for over a decade, moved to the Ottery Station community centre at the beginning of this year.

Josefina, who is 75 years old (although you would not think it) was born in Columbia to a Spanish mother and Italian father. She speaks six languages; including Spanish, Italian, Portuguese, French, Dutch and English.

Her classes incorporate a variety of activities and 'real life' situations, which gives students the opportunity to learn Spanish in a fun and engaging way.

Nub News caught up with Josefina, who explained: "I have been teaching in England for 38 years. I used to teach in Colyton Grammar and in St. Clare's - the old adult education centre in Seaton.

"Then, about ten or 11 years ago, I came to Ottery and it was when the council moved to the new premises. They asked me if I wanted to teach there, so I started doing Spanish lessons.

"Coming here, to the Ottery Station centre, has been a very good thing. The facilities are excellent and the parking makes it really convenient."

When asked what she enjoys about teaching, she said: "I learn a lot from the students - every student is a hidden treasure.

"I get to know each student individually, they are all so different and interesting as human beings.

"The loyalty is amazing - students become like a family, you know?

"Thats's why I love the classes."
