Large Hay Bales on Fire at Greendale Business Park, Woodbury Salterton

Date: 15.08.2018Time: 04:46Location: Greendale Business Park, Woodbury SaltertonThe Fire Service were called to a report of hay bales on fire within a field at the above location.  Initially one fire appliance from Middlemoor was mobilised to this incident and then they requested a further appliance for compressed air foam which attended from Danes Castle. This is approximately 300 to 400 large straw bales well alight, crews at work with two hose reel jets and a telehandler was also requested to assist with extinguishing the fire.  A water carrier from Danes Castle was also mobilised due to water supply issues and to aid in protecting adjacent buildings. 

Update at 08:55 - Fire service telehandler still in use moving burning material away from road edge. Crews are still at work with hose reels jets.

Update at 09:13 - Middlemoor requested the attendance of the water bowser to return to provided water to extinguish the hay bales.

Update at 12:07 - Crews making steady progress with the telehandler and hose reel jets entiguishing the fire. The crew advised local residents and local businesses to keep windows and door shut due to the smoke in the area.

Update at 17:01 - Crews are making steady progress turning over and damping down hot spots.

Final update at 20:45 Crews have extinguished the fire and left the scene. The cause was deemed as deliberate. A revisit will take place later in the evening.
