Discover new tastes, enjoy a relaxed social occasion and support local businesses; Unique Boutique Events offers a tantalising treat for the people of Sidmouth over the summer months.

Returning for a second year, Sidmouth Eats Boutique is a street food market showcasing a choice selection of local food and drink producers.

It runs on June 21, July 19 and August 16 in the evening and is located on the Ham overlooking the sea.

Nub News caught up with the woman behind Unique Boutique Events, Eleanor Carr, to find out what motivated her to do what she does.

She said: "One of the biggest inspirations for starting the whole thing was being in France and turning up to this village square where everyone had come together at the end of the day to share food.

"It was a boiling hot evening and the smell of food cooking, blue skies and the noise of everyone chatting together was such an incredible atmosphere. I just wanted to replicate that here.

"I have a history of involvement with events and catering going back 20 years now, having always worked in catering to fund travelling around the world.

"It was while organising arts and crafts events at the Exeter Phoenix 10 years ago that the opportunity arose to do my own thing with Unique Boutique Events. Initially it was an arts and crafts market for local makers and artists and then moving into East Devon I was inspired to do the street food markets.

"They are so popular, and I think one of the things that people like is that they're quite small. There's no sponsorship, they're not corporate and trying to get bigger and bigger each year. It's just about creating a space for the local community to come together - meet up and share food on a Friday evening, which is a great way to end the week.

When asked what people should expect from the events, she said: "We've got a range of traders, I think around 8 or 9. We try to have a good balance of different dishes and always cater for vegans, gluten free and other dietary requirements.

"All the food is freshly prepared and cooked on site by our traders and there's a bar, so you can just go around and see what takes your fancy. Dishes cost in the region of 5 to 9 pounds.

"Biodegradable packaging is used as much as possible - the bar uses reusable cups and glasses on a deposit basis. We ask people to take their rubbish home and recycle where they can, but there are bins around.

"This year we're running a scheme where if you take the red bucket from the bar and fill it up with plastic from the beach you can get a free drink. It's as much about bringing people together as it is about looking after the landscape we live in and this beautiful coastline."

In terms of supporting local traders: "I get lots of new enquiries every year, along with my regulars. They're great markets for new businesses as well, because they're not a massively expensive.

"Going to trade at a weekend's festival is a big investment for a small business, whereas they can come along to a Friday evening with us and try out new things. It means that what's on offer is always quite cutting edge."
