A new councillor was elected to the Sidmouth East seat on Sidmouth Town Council on Thursday (22 June).

Lorraine Brown beat Brenda Cockett by 79 votes to 17.

The election was held as several Sidmouth Town Council seats were left empty after nobody stood for them in the local elections in May.

Two more new councillors, Mike Goodman and Louise Laybury, were automatically elected earlier this month to represent Sidmouth Sidford Village as the poll was uncontested.

Since nobody put themselves forward again for the Sidmouth West seat, a fresh election will be held within 35 days of 22 June. It is likely that if anyone stands they will be immediately appointed.
