A currently disused shop premises on Mill Street in Ottery St Mary has been sold for £161,000 at an auction held last Thursday, 13 February.

The former Costcutter has been dealt with by Clive Emson Land and Property Auctioneers and reached well over the guide price range of between £90,000 - £120,000.

The sale of the property, having stood vacant since 2017, marks a significant investment within the town's centre and is good news for high street businesses.

That said, the successful bid was made over the phone and plans as to how it will be developed are currently unknown.

Nub News spoke to chairman of the Property and Land Committee for Ottery St Mary Town Council and former mayor, Glyn Dobson, who told us: "I attended the auction where the sale was agreed and I am very pleased that the property has at last found a buyer.

"It has been an eye-sore on Mill Street for years now and even though we don't yet know what the designs on it are, it is good news for the town and its traders."

The Clive Emson website advertised the property as: "A deceptively large mixed commercial and residential building located in the heart of the popular market town of Ottery St Mary."
