A bigger than ever party, that will fill Sidmouth with colour and laughter, will be held to mark the Queen's Platinum Jubilee.

A recent Government decision to have an extra bank holiday in 2022, will mean there will be an official four-day public holiday from Thursday, June 2 to Sunday, June 5.

Sidmouth Chamber of Commerce has run a number of highly successful street parties over recent years to commemorate significant national events, attracting large numbers - reportedly being some of the most well-attended and colourful in the South West.

And, the Platinum Jubilee will be no different!

A spokesperson for the chamber said they were already planning for the Platinum Jubilee, and were pleased that the Government had announced the dates well in advance, as this helped with forward planning and preparation work.

They added: "In fact, we had already booked the tables.

"We expect the Platinum Jubilee to be a bigger event than any of those we have organised before.

"No monarch has ever been so popular and respected, and a Platinum Jubilee is obviously an exceptional achievement that we will mark accordingly.

"Our street parties have all been incredibly popular, and it is obvious that the townspeople enjoy them very much.

"So we are probably going to stick with the traditional format, although we expect it to be the biggest we have ever held.

"The early announcement of the dates is very helpful, and gives us plenty of time to make the whole weekend as enjoyable and memorable as possible.

"We already have a draft programme in mind, and will be liaising with other organizations across the town as we always have done."
