OPINION: Getting Back into Your Fitness Routine

While we may not have yet received the go-ahead from the government for gyms and fitness studios to reopen, it hopefully won't be long. With that in mind, thoughts are turning to getting back to 'normal' and, with that, our old routines.

It's important to remember though that, even if you've been keeping active during lock down, your fitness plans will likely have altered, so you shouldn't expect to jump straight back in and pick up where you left off.

If, pre-lock down, you were lifting heavy weights in the gym, start a little lighter than you normally would when you get back to it. It won't take you long to build back up, and starting lighter will help avoid injuries.

Similarly, if you were exercising most days before but have been fairly sedentary during lock down, ease yourself in with just a few sessions a week. Excuse the pun, but don't run before you can walk!

Now is also the perfect time to really think about the exercise you are (or want to be) doing and the venues you are using.

If you are used to the large corporate gyms (with the expensive memberships), maybe you would like to consider supporting the smaller, less busy, local gyms or fitness studios.

Most offer a wide variety of classes with smaller numbers, which obviously will make everyone feel safer at the moment.

At LC Fitness we will be strictly following government and industry guidelines, putting social distancing measures in place and upping our already rigorous cleaning routine.

We are also keeping up with our online classes, which have proved really popular during lock down, meaning that you can enjoy all our classes from the comfort of your own home.

We still have a couple of slots available for one-to-one personal training, or, if you have a couple of friends that want to get fit with you we can offer special discounted group rates.
