Pancake Day fun for Doveleigh Care residents

Residents at Doveleigh Care homes celebrated Shrove Tuesday on February 16 with a feast of pancakes.

All three homes - in Sidmouth, Seaton and Colyton - took part, with several residents mixing up the batter and frying the pancakes themselves.

They served up the pancakes with the traditional lemon and sugar, along with Nutella and strawberries.

Senior manager Samantha Evens said: "They love it, it feels like being at home - and it is their home now.

"You can tell by their faces what it meant to them, what joy and fun it gave."

Another cause for celebration

Another person who had reason to smile in the last few days was 108-year-old Arcot House resident Topsy, whose nephew has finally been able to visit her for the first time since the start of the pandemic last year.

Richard Hindley arranged to visit on Thursday, February 11, after having his Covid vaccine - he was also tested before coming into the building.

The visit was conducted with a Perspex screen separating them, and Richard was wearing a mask – but there was nothing to hide the smile on Topsy's face as she enjoyed seeing her nephew.
