Planning permission is being sought to turn a disused religious assembly building into a three-bedroom home in Sidmouth.

The former Jehovah's Witnesses Kingdom Hall, located down an alleyway off Russell Street, is "quite dilapidated in places" but still reportedly sound enough structurally to convert.

It would have an open-plan ground floor and three bedrooms on the first floor.

The conversion would be "very sympathetic with the existing building", with the slate roof renewed and red-brick walls repointed (that is, the mortar replaced) as required.

It is located down an alleyway off Russell Street (Google Maps)

There would also be two porches with timber posts and pitched slate roofs "in keeping with the overall Victorian style".

The outside tarmac would be replaced with flower beds in some areas and covered with gravel and stepping stones in others to create a courtyard garden.

The extension to the south-east would be demolished and the area screened off with close-boarded fencing/gates and a slate roof for bin and bike storage.

One of the first floor windows on the north-east elevation would be blocked up to reduce overlooking and the first-floor windows to the south-east would be partially obscured.

The planning application is currently awaiting a decision from East Devon District Council.
