Planning permission has been granted to demolish a cottage and build a single-storey two-bedroom home in Sidmouth.

Ascerton Cottage is located in the grounds of Ascerton House, a Grade II listed building off Temple Street.

A previous application was refused earlier this year over concerns about the size of the new house in relation to the listed building and it being too close to its neighbour to the north.

But the plans were changed and resubmitted and have now been approved. The changes include cutting the new house into the slope to ensure the overall height is lower than that of Ascerton House, and moving it further south.

The new house will have brick walls and a slate roof, parking and improved access from Ascerton Road.

Construction work must now start within three years, amongst other conditions.
