Police investigating report of serious sexual assault in Sidmouth

Police are investigating an incident on the footpath between Heydons Lane and May Terrace.

The incident was reported to have taken place between midnight and 12.45am on Sunday 30 June, on a footpath running from Heydons Lane to May Terrace.

The victim, a female in her late teens, has told police she was assaulted by an unknown male and subjected to a serious sexual assault.

Detective Inspector Dawn Perriam said: "This is an isolated and extremely rare incident and a thorough police investigation is under way."

The area was cordoned-off until Sunday afternoon as police enquiries took place.

Police investigations are continuing.
