Police offer advice and urge the public to think about their own safety

Local News by Hannah Corfield 15th Feb 2020

Devon and Cornwall Police are warning people to look out for their own safety as Storm Dennis lashes down on Exmouth.

A recent post on social media said: "Storm Dennis has well and truly arrived in the South West and the weather conditions are expected to get worse before they get better.

"Police are experiencing an increased number of calls about weather related incidents (unsurprisingly).

"Please think about your safety and the safety of others and only go out if you really need to.

"As well as safety on the roads please stay safe in areas like coastline or the moors.

"Always call 999 in an emergency.

"Rain and wind and hazardous driving conditions again, but the drill is the same:

  • Slow down and increase the distance to the vehicle in front so you can stop safely.
  • Dipped headlights on when it's raining, please. Don't rely on daytime running lights (DRLs) as these may not also be illuminated at the rear of your vehicle.
  • Fog lights are for when it's foggy."
