Sidmouth Tennis Club is holding a special memorial tournament in memory of former club member Sam Marriott.
Sam Marriott died in February 2017 in a tragic accident while walking home after an evening with friends, he was just 19 years old.
The Sam Marriott Memorial Trophy, on Sunday, July 21, has become an important part of Sidmouth Tennis Club's calendar.
"We all played with him and he is very fondly remembered," said Martin Dawes, the club's chairman.
"The memorial trophy has become a tradition within the club. Sam is still a leading light in delivering tennis to young people here.
"This event is a way to encourage more young players to join the club, they are the lifeblood of our sport. People in Sidmouth tend to be older and have more time to play but we are doing a lot here to encourage youngsters to try out the sport."
The Junior Senior Tournament at Sidmouth Tennis Club, Fortfield Terrace, is open to all ages, members and friends. Proceeds from the event will go to two charities:
-HCPT, Hosanna House and Children's Pilgrimage Trust, which Sam was very involved with.
-Balloons Charity, which works with bereaved children in Exeter, Mid and East Devon.
The tournament will start at 1.30pm, all those wishing to take part are asked to enter their names on a list attached to the tennis hut at the club.
A BBQ and raffle will be held at 6pm, with vegetarian and children's options available.
Adult tickets cost £12.50 and children's tickets cost £5 (children under 10 years old).
All the proceeds will be going to Sam's two charities. If you would like to attend the BBQ please get in touch with Debbie Snelgrove on 07817928502 or email her on [email protected].
