Sidmouth: All of the sites earmarked for housing developments in the local area

East Devon District Council has earmarked a number of sites in the local area that could accommodate future housing development as part of its local plan for 2020-2040.

Sites listed as suitable for development are as follows:

Sidmouth, Sidford, Sidbury

First choice "preferred" sites

  • Peak Coach House (Numbers 1-3 Belfry Cottages), Cotmaton Road. 11 homes;
  • Land south-west of Woolbrook Road. 127 homes and 0.27 hectares of employment land;
  • Land west of Two Bridges Road, Sidford. 30 homes.

Second choice sites

  • Land south of Furzehill, Sidbury. 38 homes and 0.15 hectares of employment land.

Rejected sites

Rejected sites include Alexandria Industrial Estate, land west of Two Bridges Road, Sidford, and all sites in Newton Poppleford.

Sites where planning permission already given

  • Area off Station Road;
  • Area off A375, Sidford.

Ottery St Mary, West Hill, Tipton St John

First choice "preferred" sites

  • Land at Thorne Farm, Exeter Road, Ottery St Mary. 90 homes;
  • Land south of Strawberry Lane, Ottery St Mary. 60 homes;
  • Land to north and south of Salston Barton, Ottery St Mary. 20 homes;
  • Land north and east of Eastfield, West Hill. 25 homes and 0.1 hectares of employment land;
  • Land adjoining Windmill Lane, West Hill. 26 homes and 0.1 hectares of employment land.

Second choice sites

  • Land south of Otter Close, Tipton St John. 45 homes.

Rejected sites

Rejected sites include Gerway Farm, land west of Cadhay Lane, and more.

East Budleigh, Otterton

  • Land adjacent to the North Star, Otterton. 8 homes;
  • Land off Bell Street, Otterton. 10 homes;

Sites not yet assessed include land east of Rydon Close, Otterton; Ashfield, Vicarage Road, East Budleigh; Land on the south side of Russell Drive, East Budleigh.

Rejected sites

Rejected sites include land off Frogmore Road, East Budleigh; land at Hayes Lane, Otterton.

Budleigh Salterton

  • Budleigh Salterton Community Hospital. 20 homes.

Second choice sites

  •  Land at Barn Lane. 38 homes and 0.3 hectares of employment land;
  •  Land at Barn Lane. 44 homes and 0.3 hectares of employment land.

Sites not assessed

Sites not yet assessed include Brook Road car park, Lower Station car park, The Old Smithy on Dalditch Lane.

Rejected sites

Rejected sites include The Old Orchard, Halse Hill, Little Knowle.

How can I share my opinion on the proposed sites?

The district council launched a public consultation this week for people to give their views on the local plan.

There will also be a number of public exhibitions held across East Devon from the end of November into December.
