Firefighters from Sidmouth helped put out a deliberately-started blaze at a barn and workshop in Southleigh near Colyton last night.

The fire, reported at about 10pm, involved a building off Seaton Road containing agricultural equipment and eight LPG gas cylinders, the workshop, and a car.

Two fire crews from Sidmouth attended, along with another crew from Seaton and the water bowser from Exeter. They used hose reel and main jets to extinguish the flames and cool the three propane cylinders, one butane cylinder and one patio gas cylinder, from a distance.

They also used a thermal imaging camera to check for any hotspots.

The operation ended at 1.44am and investigations at the scene found that the fire had been started deliberately.
