Sidmouth: local petrol stations still have fuel despite national supply crisis

Fuel supply shortages may be hitting motorists hard in many parts of the UK, but people in Sidmouth are still able to fill up at local petrol stations.

Sidmouth Nub News visited the Gulf filling station early lunchtime. The forecourt was busy with a constant stream of vehicles coming in to buy fuel.

The cashier said: "There's no problem at all. We're getting regular deliveries."

He explained that some of the pumps were out of action because the filters had to be cleaned, not because the fuel had run out.

Meanwhile the Esso garage on the A3052 towards Exeter was also supplying fuel, and was busy with customers.

But the cashier would not comment on whether supplies were running low, saying he wasn't allowed to talk to the media on behalf of their supplier, Motor Fuel Group (MFG).

Earlier today the Transport Secretary Grant Shapps said there were the first 'tentative signs of stabilisation' in the amount of fuel on petrol station forecourts, and he urged motorists to go back to their normal buying habits.
