Sidmouth man arrested after man has top of ear bitten off

Police are appealing for witnesses after a man in his 50s had the top of his ear bitten off in Newton Abbot.

A 25-year-old man from Sidmouth was arrested on suspicion of assault and affray and is currently on police bail.

The two men involved reportedly did not know each other. The incident happened at around 3am on Saturday 29 April outside Bar 7 on Market Street.

A Devon and Cornwall Police spokesperson said: "Police are appealing for witnesses following an assault in Newton Abbot which left a man with serious injuries.

"The incident happened at around 3am on Saturday 29 April outside Bar 7 on Market Street and involved two men who were not known to one another.

"Following an altercation, one of the men bit the top of the other man's ear off resulting in it becoming detached. The victim, who is in his 50s, was taken to hospital.

"A 25-year-old man from Sidmouth was arrested on suspicion of assault and affray and is currently on police bail until 18 July."
