A Sidmouth shop offering a more eco-friendly way to shop free from plastic is set to close 'within the next few weeks' after almost four years in business.

FillFull, a zero-waste store on Fore Street, stocked food and household supplies. Customers could fill their own containers with the products, thereby reducing plastic waste, and also purchase gifts and everyday items.

It opened its first shop in Ottery St Mary in August 2018 (it has since closed down). In Sidmouth, it opened a shop on Cross Lane in December 2019 before relaunching in Fore Street in April 2021.

Owner Dan Prince did not specify the exact reasons for the closure, but mentioned the last two years, which were dominated by the Covid-19 pandemic.

He wrote on social media: "This August would have been FillFull's fourth birthday, but unfortunately we will not be open and we will be closing within the next few weeks.

"I don't need to dwell on all the reasons why, as you've all lived through the last crazy two years too; needless to say that despite receiving a very warm welcome when we opened, it has been tough.

"I've given it my best shot but have had to make the difficult decision to draw a line. Forgive us if our opening hours are a little sporadic in the coming weeks as we tidy up, ready to move on. Lots of reductions as we clear the stock.

"Thank you so much to all our customers, past and present - your support has meant a lot. Don't stop caring about the planet and trying to make a difference. I won't."
