Works to upgrade the Ham and Long Park play parks will not start until later this year, Sidmouth Town Council has said.

It had expected the new equipment to be installed by the end of July.

The delays come due to 'a shortage of key materials and elements for both parks', and the town council added that delays outside its control, such as a shortage of contractors after the pandemic, have already delayed the works.

Both play parks will remain open during the summer holidays, and work will instead begin in September for Long Park and October for the Ham.

Cllr Louise Cole said: "We have to work with the challenges we face but are really pleased that we have two really great play park designs ready to go and the equipment on order.

"Meanwhile, it is important to keep children and families updated, and to reassure people that the new start time for the play park works whilst unavoidable, also mean that there will be no closures of the parks during the summer holidays."
