The trees of Sidmouth Civic Arboretum – the only one in the UK – are the subject of the latest artwork created for the Sidmouth Wallspace project at the Ham car park.

Sidmouth Wallspace is a physical public outdoor gallery for everyone at the Ham car park, where the work of different artists using a variety of mediums are presented. It is a collaborative project between Sidmouth School of Art, the Coastal Community Hub and David Shrigley, supported by Arts Council England and Sidmouth Town Council. 

The latest artwork to be featured is called 'Trees in Art', with a number of artists offering their personal interpretations of the flora and fauna at Sidmouth Arboretum.

The artists taking part were Anna Brewster, Cherry Ferris, Penny Gatrill-Smith, David Gatrill-Smith, Barbara Green, Caitlin Hennessy, Rebecca Lockyear and Trixie Walker.

Louise Cole, director of Sidmouth Coastal Community Hub, said: "Trees in Art collaboratively captures our amazing treescape, symbolising growth, seasonality and strength, reminding us of their beauty and importance to our lives reducing carbon and providing us with oxygen."

Kennaway House hosted an exhibition comprising 70 works depicting trees from Sidmouth Arboretum earlier this month, as part of the Queen's Platinum Jubilee cekebrations.

The billboard at the Ham car park display features 22 of the paintings from the exhibition. 

Each can be identified by species and place using the 'What3Words' app, enabling the viewer to see the trees for themselves in their natural setting.
