As The Donkey Sanctuary's 50th anniversary celebrations continue, the Sidmouth sanctuary offers a whole host of activities and events providing the perfect family day out this summer.

From the 'People's Choice Award' winning RHS Chelsea Flower Show Garden, to the annual Summer Fair and the new 'Adoption Donkey Guess Who Trail'.

The 'Chelsea' show garden has been rebuilt at the Sidmouth sanctuary, giving visitors the chance to see it for free for many years to come.

The garden is a lasting legacy from the prestigious show. It was designed to showcase the charity's international work and celebrate 50 years of transforming the lives of donkeys and mules.

The brand new summer trail gives visitors the chance to discover which of the nine adoption donkeys at Sidmouth is the most playful, has the fluffiest ears or is the biggest in the herd.

By following clues around the sanctuary, visitors can find out which adoption donkey is hiding behind stable doors in the 'Adoption Donkey Guess Who Trail'. The trail runs right throughout the summer months. The cost for each trail is £3 with a prize on completion.

The Donkey Sanctuary's award-winning Summer Fair is back on Sunday, August 11, promising a day of serious feel-good fun for the whole family.

The packed day features live music and entertainment, donkey demonstrations, family games, plus the chance to meet and greet some of the adorable resident donkeys. Admission to the Summer Fair costs £2.50 per adult, under 12s are free.

There are hundreds of donkeys cared for at the sanctuary, including the gentle giant Poitous and adorable miniature donkeys.

The scenic trails are at their very best at this time of year, making it a great time to stroll around the paddocks, through Hermitage Woods and even down to the sea. Little ones can burn off steam in the maze and outdoor play area too.

Set in glorious Devon countryside overlooking the world famous Jurassic Coast, the sanctuary in Sidmouth is the perfect way to spend a summer's day and help the charity celebrate its Golden Anniversary.

All proceeds go towards The Donkey Sanctuary's work in the community and worldwide.
