This Friday, November 29, Ottery St Mary will host its Christmas lights switch on and late night shopping event.

The evening will begin with a brass band playing outside Downs Motors at 5.30pm. It will then move to the steps outside the Parish Church, where the La La Choir will perform hymns and people can enjoy the Christmas Tree Festival.

The procession will then wend its way through Gold Street, ending up at the council offices. Santa (assisted by the Rotary) is to join proceedings and children will also be treated to a treasure hunt.

From there, the choir will sing a few festive songs - followed by a performance from the silver band - before the Christmas lights are officially switched on in the town.

Shopkeepers are in to win a large cash prize for the best-dressed shop and will be pulling in punters with tempting offers for those wishing to purchase special gifts for Christmas.

It's the perfect opportunity to get together with the community for some festive cheer, whilst supporting local businesses and independent traders.

People are being warned that a rolling road closure will be in place on Gold Street on the evening of Friday 29 November, from around 6.15pm lasting approximately 15 mins.

Drivers are being advised to avoid Silver Street, Cornhill, Broad Street between 6.15pm and 6.30pm.
