Weather 'menace' to bring six-foot waves to Sidmouth

After Storm Ciara unleashed her fury on Sidmouth's Esplanade last weekend - the glass panel did stand up to the battering in case you missed it - we are in for another patch of 'menacing' weather.

According to MET Ofiice reports, Storm Dennis will be making an appearance on Saturday, bringing heavy rain and strong winds to much of the UK.

The MET Office has declared a 'National Severe Weather Warning for wind' with further warnings likely to be issued in the coming days.

Steve Ramsdale, Chief Meteorologist at the Met Office said: "Another spell of very wet and windy weather is expected for Saturday, although Storm Dennis is currently not expected to be as severe as Ciara disruption is still likely."

According to popular surfing forecast website, Magic Seaweed (linked below), 6-foot waves are predicted in Lyme Bay over Saturday and Sunday.

This might sound like "surfer heaven", however it is extremely dangerous to go anywhere near the water's edge when it is rough at sea.

There is an Amber Weather Warning in place for Sidmouth this weekend, which states 'some coastal routes, sea fronts and coastal communities will be affected by spray and/or large waves.'

As we saw last weekend, when Sidmouth seafront was taped off by police, there is a heightened chance of 'injuries and danger to life from large waves and beach material being thrown onto sea fronts, coastal roads and properties.'
