A 91-year-old woman suffered a minor head injury after falling over on Sidmouth Esplanade on Saturday (14 October).

HM Coastguard were called to the scene just after 5.30pm.

Two people had put blankets on top of the woman, who was alert and talking.

The Bedford Hotel on the seafront let the Coastguard move her inside the hotel to keep warm and wait for an ambulance to arrive.

An HM Coastguard spokesperson said: "SWAST [South Western Ambulance Service] requested Coastguard assistance to attend a 91-year-old lady who had fallen on the Esplanade and suffered a minor head injury.

"Once on scene we found two members of the public helping and had placed blankets on the casualty who was alert and talking.

"While we did an initial assessment one of the team spoke to The Bedford Hotel who allowed us to relocate the casualty to a place of warmth in the hotel.

"We continued to assess and treat the casualty until the ambulance arrived.

"We wish her a quick recovery.

"Thanks to The Bedford Hotel for their hospitality and the two members of the public who provided the initial care."
