The cost of providing homeless people with temporary accommodation in Sidmouth and the wider East Devon area has soared over the last five years.
In 2014-15, East Devon District Council spent only £17,699 on providing homeless people with temporary accommodation, but that figures has risen to £285,531 for 2018-19.

Sidmouth Town Council has decided to splash some cash on three new public toilets on Sidmouth Esplanade.
The plans, which have been in the pipeline since October 2019, to build three new public toilets in the Seafront Amenity Building at a cost of roughly £14,000 have been approved by Sidmouth Town Council.

A proposed splash wall along Sidmouth seafront intended to protect the town from flooding must be at least one metre high, Sidmouth Town Council was told this evening.
The chairman of Sidmouth's Beach Management Plan Steering Group, councillor Geoff Jung, told councillors at a full meeting of Sidmouth town council that the wall must be at least one metre high but the wall does not have to be entirely concrete. It could be 'enhanced' with glass panels, built in seating and planting.
Discussions will be taking place this week about the future of Jacob's Ladder in Sidmouth.
East Devon District Council (EDDC) will be discussing a recommendation from EDDC's Capital Strategy and Allocation Group to pass responsibility for Jacob's Ladder and the railings along Sidmouth Seafront to the town council.
