Art History Talks: Treasures of the Anglo Saxon World
Kennaway House
Culture
UNTIL Monday 27th February
Art history talks with Ffiona Eaves will explore the wonderful craftsmanship and skills of Anglo-Saxon artists and craftsmen. Ffiona will examine the gold and garnet jewellery of the Sutton Hoo treasure, stunning in its sophistication and rich materials, and the Alfred Jewel- commissioned by King Alfred himself.
Taken with a small slice of history, each of these talks can illuminate a century in the 400 years of profound changes before the Norman Conquest, a time when small kingdoms ruled by pagan warlords coalesced to form "England", and the Church became a dominant influence, reconnecting England to the Continent and introducing new artistic forms.
Each talk starts at 2.30pm. Included in the price of your ticket are hot drinks and biscuits, served from 2pm.
Tickets cost £10 and £8 for Friends/Members of Kennaway House.
Following Talk Dates: 6th March & 20th March
