Devon and Cornwall police are investigating the theft of one of The Donkey Sanctuary's vehicles.

The Donkey Sanctuary is the world's largest charity for donkeys. They run 10 sanctuaries in the UK and Europe and provide lifelong care to more than 7,000 donkeys and mules. They are located just outside of Sidmouth.

Their Land Rover was parked on the forecourt of a Sidmouth garage whilst it awaited a small repair. It is believed to have been stolen overnight between 5.30pm on Wednesday 25 May and 8.30am on Thursday 26 May.

The vehicle's registration is WJ51 KZG and it is a 2001 Land Rover Defender 90 TD5. It is a green car with a white hardtop.

The Donkey Sanctuary used the vehicle to help care for the charity's rescued and relinquished donkeys.

A spokesperson for The Donkey Sanctuary told Nub News: "We provide vital care to rescued and relinquished donkeys and rely entirely on donations from members of the public.

"We're incredibly sad that someone has stolen our Land Rover as it impacts on how we care for our donkeys.

"The Land Rover is one of our essential vehicles and used to issue medication to sick donkeys throughout the sanctuary, transport vet supplies, grooming equipment and maintain paddock fencing."

Anybody that has information regarding the stolen Land Rover is urged to contact the police on 101 quoting the log number 384.
