Your guide to the Platinum Jubilee in Sidmouth

Sidmouth is set to celebrate the Queen's Platinum Jubilee this week with a variety of special events, street parties and more.

The Platinum Jubilee, which marks 70 years since the accession of Queen Elizabeth II to the throne, will be celebrated over four days from Thursday 2 to Sunday 5 June. Thursday and Friday are bank holidays.

Here's our rundown of what's on in the Sidmouth area over the long weekend:

Thursday 2 June

New Street, Market Place, Old Fore Street and Church Street will be closed from 1pm to 8pm on Thursday (Nub News, Will Goddard)

Sidmouth International Jazz and Blues Festival (12pm to 10pm, various locations in Sidmouth)

Salcombe Regis 50th anniversary country fair (2pm to 5pm, Salcombe Regis)

  • Free car park in the Salcombe Regis Recreation Field, free bus into village and free admission.
  • Gittisham Hall Jazz Band to play, stalls and refreshments available.

Sidmouth Chamber of Commerce street party (4pm to 7pm)

  • Ticket sales now closed.
  • 1950s dress encouraged, must bring own chairs, food and drink as only tables provided.
  • Sidmouth Town Band and DJ to feature.

Road closures

  • New Street, Market Place, Old Fore Street and Church Street closed 1pm to 8pm for Sidmouth Chamber of Commerce street party. No vehicle access.

Jubilee beacon-lighting (9.45pm)

  • Fire Beacon (for the first time since 1590), Esplanade, and Sidbury Jubilee Beacon on Evergreen Hill to be lit.

Friday 3 June

L: Band All Jazzed Up. R: Kennaway House front lawn (Sidmouth Int. Jazz and Blues Festival)

Sidmouth International Jazz and Blues Festival (12pm to 10pm, various locations in Sidmouth)

Sidbury Jubilee dance and hog roast/barbecue (7pm to 12pm, Millenium Green, Sidbury)

  • Ticketed event.

Saturday 4 June

Fore Street, Sidmouth (Nub News, Will Goddard)

Sidmouth International Jazz and Blues Festival (12pm to 10pm, various locations in Sidmouth)

  • Free music at Kennaway House lawn and food and drink for sale. Also free music at The Hotel Riviera, Fort Cafe, 14 Miles East, The Courtyard Cafe, The Balfour Arms, The Radway Inn.
  • Ticketed concerts.

Platinum Jubilee morning (10am to 12.30pm, Sidmouth Library)

  • Lemonade and cakes on offer.
  • Crown-making for children.
  • Free to enter.

Sidford WI Community Platinum Jubilee coffee morning (10am to 12pm, Sidford Social Hall)

  • Entry £1.
  • Coffee, tea and jubilee cake on offer.
  • Stalls for cakes, books, plant, jubilee souvenirs and raffle.

Sunday 5 June

  • Free music at Kennaway House lawn and food and drink for sale. Also free music at The Marine, Dissenter of Sidmouth, The Volunteer Inn, Sidmouth Market Place, The Balfour Arms, Sidmouth Conservative Club.
  • Ticketed concerts.

Celebration service, exhibition at St Giles' Church (11am, Sidbury)

Big Jubilee lunch and sports (12pm, Millennium Green, Sidbury)

  • Bring your own tables, chairs, food. Prize for best-dressed table.

Road closures for street parties

  • Connaught Road
  • Harcombe Lane, Sidford
