East Devon District Council is looking to use 'modular' homes for its social housing.

Modular homes are built beforehand and assembled on location, in contrast to conventional houses.

The local authority described the move as an "innovative, carbon-neutral" solution, as the houses feature solar panels, heat pumps and triple glazing.

Cllr Dan Ledger (Independent East Devon Alliance, Seaton) said: "One of the key aspirations of the current administration at EDDC was to ensure the council starts to develop its own housing stock again.

"The aim is really simple; to deliver high-quality, low-carbon homes that are truly affordable for all."

The district council will be making further announcements about the project later this spring.
